Ajwain Seeds
NATURAL PURE AJWAIN SEED - FRESH STOCK
Ajwain Seeds have a strong aroma and a slightly bitter taste, with notes of oregano, celery seed and a hint of anise (mild licorice). The seeds taste a little like a sharp, pungent type of thyme, since the flavour comes mainly from the essential oil thymol. The tiny seeds are related to cumin, from the celery family. Ajowan, ajowan caraway, omam, thymol seeds, bishop's weed and carom are some of the other names used for ajwain seeds.
The seeds are used in herbal remedies as well as in cooking and even as an ingredient in tea blends. A source of antioxidants and dietary fibre with micronutrients, including magnesium, potassium and calcium, ajwain seed is traditionally regarded as beneficial for digestive health and may even help with flatulence. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Best avoided if nursing or pregnant.
